Platinum Warranty Details

We have organized our cars into five different car sales classes depending on Age, Mileage, Inspection level, Condition, and Warranty Coverage.

Cars in the Platinum Certified classification have undergone our thorough inspection, and all necessary renewal maintenance and repairs have been completed (if any). Cars that are still under the manufacture warranty are also taken to the dealer for service to maintain the factory warranty.

Our cars Platinum Certified cars also come with a warranty from Expat Auto as follows:

Full Comprehensive Warranty (bumper-to-bumper)

Our Platinum Certified cars are the only car sale class that comes with this 1 month premium coverage.

Limited Powertrain Warranty

The limited powertrain warranty covers internally lubricated parts of major engine and drivetrain components. This warranty is provided for twelve months on our Platinum Certified cars

Engine (engine block, cylinder head, crankshaft, main and rod bearings, pistons and connecting rods, camshaft, valvetrain, timing gears and chain – timing belt excluded).
Drivetrain (transmission gears and internally lubricated parts, drive shafts, universal joints, cv-joints, differential gears, wheel bearings).

Warranty Terms

The vehicle must be brought back to the Expat Auto facility in Chiang Mai for warranty claims. The customer is responsible for any fees involved in getting the vehicle back to our facility. For full details of all the terms feel free to request a copy of our sale agreement that has all the fine print.

What paperwork do I need to buy a car?

Basically, just a passport and a valid residency certificate, which we can help arrange for you at our office if you have a TM-30 from immigration.

Do I need a driver’s license to buy a car?

No, but you will need one in order to be able to make insurance claims so best to get it sorted as soon as possible.

How does insurance and yearly registration work in Thailand?

The basic government requirements to be road legal is to have the mandatory government insurance called P.R.B. that only covers basic medical for the third party. You also need this policy to renew your yearly road tax. Cars over 7 years old and motorbikes over 5 years old also have to have a smog and safety inspection done in order to be able to renew your tax. See our vehicle title services page.

Yearly registration revolves around the date the car was originally registered new. So when a car changes owners the date doesn’t change. You can only renew the yearly road tax /registration 90 days before it expires. When you buy a car from us the road tax will be valid for a minimum 3 months or more (up to 1 year and 3 months).

We highly recommend you purchase an additional insurance policy that will cover collision property damages and additional medical coverage. Insurance in Thailand is usually sold for an unnamed driver so the good news is that anyone can drive your car and be covered. See more details about collision insurance policies types.
